WELLNESS WEDNESDAY!: "Raindrop In a Bottle" Recipe
If you know me much at all, you know I ADORE my essential oils...and for good reason! Oils saved my life more than once--killed 5 lungs infections with oregano and thyme EO, and got myself out of liver failure with lemon oil and various herbs (want to know what oils are best for you? Shoot me an email to schedule a consult: email@example.com). There are so many wonderful things you can do with oils...but one of my favorite things is, without a doubt RAINDROP THERAPY. Oh, how I love a raindrop...!
If you're reading this and have NO CLUE what a raindrop treatment is, you're not alone...I had never even heard of it until my massage therapist recommended it to me for my lungs: and ever since that first one 2 years ago, it has been my absolute favorite way to treat myself.
WHAT IS RAINDROP THERAPY?
Raindrop therapy is a 60-75 minute therapeutic massage that uses a variety of high quality, therapeutic grade essential oils to promote increased healing and muscle release.
WHY IS IT CALLED A "RAINDROP"?
The technique is called "raindrop" because the oils are dropped onto the spine from a few inches above the patient, which is reported to feel like "raindrops" (there is a physiological benefit to the oils hitting the spine in this way).
WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM A RAINDROP TREATMENT?
Raindrop therapy is beneficial for anyone and everyone: not only does it reduce pain, reduce stress and promote both emotional and physical relaxation (helpful for those with anxiety disorders or chronically tight muscles), reduce inflammation, and promote circulation, but also it aids the body with it's natural detoxification processes AND boost immune function (which is why I started getting raindrop treatments--for my CF).
WHERE CAN I GO TO GET A RAINDROP TREATMENT?
Unfortunately, I can't tell you this...not every massage therapist does raindrop treatments, much less even knows what they are. I can guarantee you a popular "chain" massage business will not have any masseuses that offer raindrops, HOWEVER, a private practice, more holistically-minded masseuse might. Your best best is to ask around and hope someone near you offers them. If you don't have any luck, well I'm here to save the day...*drumroll, please*: enter the RAINDROP IN A BOTTLE recipe. Aka a "DIY Raindrop Therapy." Now you don't get the relaxation perks of the massage, but you DO get all the immune boosting, detox-promoting, mind calming, mood-boosting, healing benefits from the oils, all without leaving the comfort of your home!
HOW DO I USE MY "RAINDROP IN A BOTTLE"?
My favorite way to use this homemade blend is obviously topically, rubbed down my spine. However, you can also diffuse this blend in a good-quality diffuser (avoid cheaper diffusers, as the oils will erode the plastic and you will end up diffusing and inhaling BPA and xenoestrogens...YUCK!)to enjoy the benefits and aroma throughout your day. Keep in mind, if you're using it topically, with oils, LESS IS MORE. Oils work much more effectively in SMALL QUANTITIES MORE FREQUENTLY, rather than 10 drops at once only one time per day. For best results, apply 3-4 drops of this blend at least 3 times per day. So if you're stuck in a healing rut and in need of a little boost to your plan, then "Raindrop in a Bottle" is perfect for you. Get ready to take your healing to the next level!
